Planning & Building Department Profile

The Olive Branch Planning and Building Department consist of the Director of Planning and Building, Assistant Director of Planning, Associate Planner, Planning Secretary, the Building Official, Assistant Building Official, Building Inspectors, Code Enforcement Officers, GIS Department, and Building Permit Clerks.

The City of Olive Branch has added a new way to submit your building/planning plans or permits. Effective 10.21.25, all applications and associated materials can now be submitted electronically at www.obms.us/apply.

The Planning Division

The Planning Division is responsible for comprehensive development review including zoning, platting, variances, and other permits. Also managing land within the City per the General Development Plan, which includes long-range, and strategic planning. Other duties include planning related data management and research, coordination with Building Inspections, geographic information systems, and professional and administrative support for public boards and commissions.

Building Inspections

Building Department is responsible for permitting all construction and conducting inspections of the work. Building codes and ordinances have been enacted and amended, when necessary, to ensure good, safe buildings. Permits are the vehicle that the City uses to inspect all construction work as it progresses. The property owner is ultimately responsible for obtaining proper permits although the action application can be delegated to the contractor.

Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement is the process by which the City of Olive Branch ensures that property owners and residents follow local municipal codes and ordinances that are designed to protect public health, safety, and quality of life.
