Fire Prevention week is here! Smoke alarms save lives!

Fire Prevention Week

October is National Fire Prevention month. As another October rolls around Olive Branch Fire Department would like to remind you of the importance of fire prevention and working smoke alarms. Smoke is a deadly mix of particles and gas that is made when materials are on fire. Smoke alarms warn you there is a fire before you see, hear or smell it. Smoke alarms are your first line of defense and give you extra time to escape.

Put working smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. For the best protection, have interconnected smoke alarms. If one alarm sounds, they all sound. Test each alarm every month using the test button.Replace the entire smoke alarm every 10 years or sooner if it does not sound when you push the test button.

a guide to staying safe on Halloween

Halloween Safety Reminders

Halloween is observed annually on October 31st. This year, October 31st falls on a Thursday. The City of Olive Branch does NOT designate a date or time for Halloween or trick-or-treating.
Looking for spooky alternative to the traditional trick-or-treating on Halloween?

Our Community Trunk-or-Treat falls on Halloween this year (10/31) from 6pm to 8pm. This annual event provides safe family fun in Old Towne complete with Trick-or-Treating with Old Towne Businesses & Business all across Olive Branch and DeSoto County, Food Trucks, Inflatables, Crafts, and a showing of The Addams Family as part of our Movies Under the Stars Series. The movie will start at 7pm.

Some neighborhoods reschedule Halloween festivities so residents should verify their trick-or-treating date with their neighborhood associations. A simple way to communicate that candy is being passed out is by turning house porch lights on. Residents that are not participating in Trick-or-Treating can leave their porch lights off.  If you are Trick-or-Treating, be sure to plan a costume with bright colors or higher visibility or add glow sticks/flashlights to increase visibility. Be sure to use sidewalks whenever available and go in groups.  Drivers- be sure to use extra caution on Halloween night and always drive slowly through residential areas.

Many area churches and businesses host their own Trunk-or-Treat or a Fall Festival. Be sure to check out Facebook's "Events Near Me" feature for more holiday fun!

Halloween is a fun and festive time for many of our residents and we wish everyone a safe holiday!
