From the Mayor's Desk: Springing Forward

Posted on March 4, 2025 at 4:46 PM by Jennifer Griffith

Dear Olive Branch Residents,

On behalf of myself, the Board of Aldermen, and City Staff, I would like to share with you how the City of Olive Branch is starting to Spring Forward this year.

Daylight Savings Time is Sunday, March 9th.

Daylight Savings Time is Sunday, March 9th. While most of our clocks automatically spring forward, it is still the perfect time to also check/change your smoke detector batteries.

If your detector is 10 years old or older, they should be replaced. Detectors that are wired into your home's electricity still have back-up batteries that should be checked/changed the same as stand alone detectors.

Forward momentum with new projects

The City has many new projects that are starting construction this Spring. On February 14th, we hosted a groundbreaking at the site of our new Animal Shelter. This facility will total 6,652 square feet. It will provide housing for 65 dogs, have a designated room for cats, an adoption space, plus functional office space for our Animal Control Staff amongst many other amenities.

Our new Public Works Facility is currently under construction. This new facility with over 24,000 square-foot will include space for inventory, an equipment simulator training room, and a large conference/training area for department meetings and safety trainings.  It will be located behind the Olive Branch Police Department and Fleet Services buildings located off of HWY 178.

Additionally, the City will be opening Bids for the George M. Harrison Soccer Complex expansion that will add additional parking spaces, a new restroom/concession facility, additional lighted soccer fields/practice fields, and add a new multi-use trail in the existing Soccer complex off of Church Road.

There are many new projects that Developers and the City that have started within our municipality. You can find all of the current notice to proceed items on the City Website here: https://www.obms.us/1365/4668/Notice-to-Proceed
